How to read a stock or crypto chart
GraphTrade's Charts page shows the live price of a cryptocurrency, stock, index or commodity. Here is how to read it and get the most out of it.
Candlesticks
Each candle sums up one period: the open, high, low and close. A green candle means the price rose over the period, a red one that it fell.
The thin wicks above and below the body show how far the price travelled before pulling back.
Choosing a timeframe
From 1 minute to 1 month per candle: short timeframes track intraday moves, long ones reveal the underlying trend over months or years.
Indicators
Moving averages smooth the price to highlight the trend. The RSI measures momentum: above 70 the market is often considered overbought, below 30 oversold.
The MACD compares two moving averages to spot shifts in momentum. More than 30 indicators are available, each with an explainer sheet and adjustable settings.
Drawings and alerts
Draw trend lines, horizontal levels or a Fibonacci retracement to identify support and resistance. Price alerts notify you when a level is reached.
