◆ Indicator · Order Blocks

Order Blocks and Fair Value Gaps (Smart Money)

Order Blocks and Fair Value Gaps (FVG) are price zones from the so-called 'Smart Money' approach. GraphTrade detects them automatically on charts and through the Scanner of your Portfolio. This guide explains what they represent, how they are calculated and their limits.

01 · Indicator · Order Blocks

What is an Order Block?

An Order Block is the last opposite-colored candle before an impulse that breaks market structure, meaning it exceeds the last significant high or low. The idea: that is where large orders may have been placed before the move.

When price returns to this zone, a reaction is possible. It is a price hypothesis, not proof of institutional orders.

02 · Indicator · Order Blocks

What is a Fair Value Gap?

An FVG is a three-candle imbalance: the low of the third candle stays above the high of the first (or the opposite in a decline). Price crossed that area too fast for supply and demand to meet.

The market often comes back to partially fill these gaps, which makes them reaction or target zones.

How GraphTrade detects them

Detection is deterministic and uses closed candles only: a zone never repaints while a candle is still forming. A zone is invalidated as soon as a close fully crosses it.

Zones are drawn in the background without changing the chart scale. Turn them on from the Indicators window, Smart Money group, or automatically when you open a Scanner signal.

04 · Indicator · Order Blocks

The Scanner and confluences

The Scanner on the Charts page goes through the assets in your Portfolio and flags those returning into a zone, with confluences such as an extreme RSI or a Bollinger Bands squeeze.

One click opens the asset's chart with the zones shown; when you go back to the Portfolio they are removed automatically unless you had turned them on yourself.

Limits and good practice

Not every zone holds. The most relevant ones line up with the main trend, a level you drew or an Ichimoku cloud. A zone already tested several times loses strength.

To understand why an asset reacts, cross-check with the news and the AI Compass summary. Nothing on GraphTrade is investment advice.

◆ FAQ

Your questions, clear answers.

01

Do Order Blocks prove institutions are present?

No. They are price zones computed from candles; they do not show actual orders.

02

Do the zones repaint?

No, only closed candles are used. A zone disappears when a close invalidates it.

03

How do I remove the zones from the chart?

Turn them off in Indicators; when opened from the Scanner they disappear by themselves when you return to the Portfolio.

04

What is the difference between OB and FVG?

An Order Block is a candle before a structure break; an FVG is a price gap left by a fast move.
